“Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it.” ― Christopher Hitchens
My parents tell me that I was a very happy child. As a baby, I slept peacefully and rarely cried. My early childhood memories are a slightly sickening and clichéd montage of play, music, laughter and sunny days.
However, there is a day that sticks in my memory as an exception to that. It was the day my Father told me – somewhat flippantly, I think – that I wouldn’t be able to read all the books in the world. I cried.
Since swallowing the awful truth of my literary mortality and drying my tears, I have been on a personal quest to at least read as many of the good ones as is humanly possible.
The Book Group Meets Semi-regularly, normally in a public house during the evening, to discuss not just the book at hand but many of the issues of interest to attendees. All people are welcome and should feel free to contribute as much or as little as desired; most important is to have a good time and meet new people. To join in the discussion on what book should be read, and to learn more about the book group feel free to contact members via the facebook group by clicking here or on the image above.
